Shura Council, IPU Sign MoU to Enhance, Develop Cooperation

The Shura Council and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Tuesday to enhance and develop cooperation and coordination and work to achieve common goals related to promoting security, stability and peace in the world and opportunities for sustainable development.

The MoU was signed by HE Speaker of the Shura Council Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud and HE Secretary-General of the IPU Martin Chungong.

The two parties will work to further develop cooperation under the MoU, as well as facilitate holding mutually beneficial bilateral meetings in areas of common interests in accordance with the legislation of each party, contributing to the establishment of continuous channels of communication between them and holding periodic meetings between their delegations alternately at the IPU headquarters and in the State of Qatar.

The MoU provides for cooperation in providing appropriate technical assistance and capacity-building support to the Shura Council staff. It also provides for the exchange of information and documents in the public domain in relation to matters of common interest and may also exchange information and documents relating to specific projects, programs or activities between the two parties in order to achieve a better integrated work.

The Council and the IPU may enter into supplementary administrative arrangements and agreements to implement the MoU and to ensure effective cooperation between the two parties.

HE President of the IPU Duarte Pacheco and HE Ambassador and HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN in Geneva Ambassador Ali Khalfan Al Mansour also attended the signing ceremony.
