The Shura Council held its first ordinary session of the first legislative term on Tuesday, corresponding to the Shura Council's 50th annual session, headed by HE Abdul Rahman Yousuf Abdul Rahman Al Khulaifi.
In a speech at the opening session, HE Abdul Rahman Yousuf Abdul Rahman Al Khulaifi welcomed the members of the Shura Council, wishing the Council success and to continue performing its duty in serving the country and citizens under the wise leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.
Then, HE Secretary-General of the Shura Council Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser Ibrahim Al Fadhala read Decree No. 48 of 2021, inviting the Shura Council to hold the first ordinary session of the first legislative term, corresponding to the Council's 50th annual session.
Then the members took the oath.
After, the Shura Council members voted to select a speaker and a deputy speaker in accordance with the provisions of Article 93 of the Constitution.
The counting of votes resulted in the selection of HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim as Speaker of the Shura Council for this legislative term and HE Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti as Deputy Speaker.
HE Speaker of the Shura Council delivered a speech on this occasion in which he extended his sincere thanks and appreciation for the confidence the members placed in him in electing him as Speaker for this legislative term.
His Excellency pointed out that HH the Amir's speech carried deep meanings and stressed that it was a comprehensive speech that drew the internal and foreign policy of the State of Qatar that must be adopted by all, whether by the executive or the legislative body represented in the Shura Council and to work to achieve what the wise leadership aspires to.
HE Speaker of the Shura Council indicated that the Council is at a very important stage in its history, emphasizing the need to assume responsibility through solidarity and work in a spirit of brotherhood for the sake of serving the country and citizens.
HE expressed his aspiration to work with the members and cooperate with the government in order to achieve prosperity in the country, so that the State of Qatar reaches advanced positions, and indicated that the Council bears the responsibility of being the first elected council, which requires the members to be careful and work to make this experiment a success.
For her part, HE Deputy Speaker Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti thanked the members for the trust they placed in her, indicating that from this new position, she will carry it out in honesty and diligence through cooperation with all members in order to serve the country and achieve Qatar National Vision 2030.
Her Excellency pointed out that her selection as Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council is a support for all Qatari women, pointing out that this advanced step empowers Qatari women by trusting in their abilities and professional and practical capabilities, which is an important achievement and a source of pride.
