Today, Her Excellency Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al-Sulaiti, Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council, held a number of meetings with a number of heads of parliaments participating in the work of the Parliamentary Conference on South-South Cooperation, which concluded its work in the Moroccan capital, Rabat, on Friday.
Her Excellency met with His Excellency Mr. Al-Naam Mayara, Speaker of the House of Councilors of the Kingdom of Morocco, His Excellency Mr. Hon Jeremiah Mban Kong, Speaker of Parliament and Vice President of the Republic of Liberia, His Excellency Dr. Rolando Patricio, Speaker of the Latin American Parliament, and His Excellency Ms. Cristina Reyes Hidalgo, President of the Andean Parliament, His Excellency Mr. Andronico Rodriguez, Speaker of the Parliament of Bolivia, and Her Excellency Ms. Lindiwe Dlamini, Speaker of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Eswatini, separately.
During the meetings, parliamentary relations and ways to support and strengthen them were discussed. Topics on the conference agenda were also reviewed, and views were exchanged on various issues of common interest.
The Shura Council delegation also held a joint meeting with the Latin American Parliament and the Andean Parliament, and the meeting witnessed aspects of cooperation and strengthening of parliamentary relations, in addition to coordination and adopting a unified position on issues of common interest. This meeting comes within the framework of implementing the decision of the seventeenth meeting of Their Excellencies the Heads of the Legislative Councils of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, which Doha hosted during November of last year, to hold coordination meetings between the Gulf councils and their Latin counterparts, prior to the meetings of international and regional forums. This was confirmed in the coordination meeting of the Gulf Parliamentary Group, which was held under the chairmanship of Qatar on the sidelines of the Parliamentary Cooperation Conference in Rabat.
The meetings were attended by the Shura Council delegation participating in the conference’s activities, including His Excellency Dr. Sultan bin Hassan Al-Dhabet Al-Dosari, His Excellency Mr. Khalid bin Ahmed Al-Obaidan, and His Excellency Mr. Issa bin Arar Al-Rumaihi, members of the Shura Council.
Today, the conference concluded with the issuance of a final statement that emphasized the importance of concerted efforts of all countries in order to enhance global stability and build a new global system of cooperation based on fair and equitable foundations for all countries of the world, at the forefront of which are the countries of the South.
He called on the international community to engage urgently in strengthening confidence in the paths of global development cooperation and strengthening international solidarity to ensure a profound development transformation in the countries of the South, and to reduce the economic gap with the countries of the North.
The attendees called on the international community to immediately stop the war in accordance with international law, to spare the blood of innocent people, and to achieve international stability and peace. They condemned the war and the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
