Empowering women and young people at the IPU 140 Assembly

The general secretaries and counsellors participating at the 140th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU 140), which kicked off on Saturday in Doha, have agreed on enabling the women and young people from among the participating parliamentary delegations to present their views at the IPU Assembly Public Discussions and not limiting entries to the heads of delegations.

According to the official figures of the IPU 140 participants, announced at the coordination meeting held on Saturday, the women participants amounted to 18% of the total number of the participants at the event, and the percentage of participating young people amounted to 14%.

The IPU 140 and related meetings enjoy the participation of 158 countries, which is considered the largest in the history of the IPU assemblies outside Geneva. Besides, the speakers of 80 countries around the world are taking part at the event.
