The Shura Council wrapped up Tuesday its participation in the 3rd South-South Parliamentary Dialogue Forum, in Rabat, Morocco.
HE Shura Council Deputy Speaker Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti chaired the legislature's delegation to the two-day event held under the theme "Interregional and Continental Dialogues in Countries of the South: An Essential Lever for Facing New Challenges of International Cooperation and Achieving Peace, Security, Stability, and Common Development".
The forum witnessed constructive discussions on the importance of parliamentary dialogue between countries of the South in enhancing international cooperation, supporting peace, security, and stability, and achieving sustainable development, as essential paths to confronting current economic, social, and environmental challenges.
On the final day, HE Al Sulaiti engaged in a meeting of women parliamentarians in Africa and the Arab world, which discussed several topics, primarily women's legislative empowerment and capacity-building in parliamentary work.
In her remarks, Her Excellency highlighted the need to enhance women's participation in political decision-making, especially in Arab and African countries facing cultural, social, and political challenges.
She also stressed the importance of training female parliamentarians and providing them with legal support, in addition to building support and communication networks to enhance the presence of Arab and African women in the political arena.
She noted the initiatives proposed to enhance the role of women in parliamentary and legislative fields, including the call to launch an annual forum for women parliamentarians in Africa and the Arab world. She emphasized that it would contribute to constructive discussions on pressing issues such as the Sustainable Development Goals and enhance dialogue and peace efforts, in addition to issues of poverty, illiteracy, and health.
Her Excellency also proposed the launch of training courses for African and Arab women parliamentarians on harnessing modern technologies to enhance parliamentary performance, including the use of data, digital platforms, and social media to serve legislative work and increase engagement with society.
She commended the launch of an annual award recognizing distinguished women parliamentarians in Africa and the Arab world, celebrating exceptional achievements in the fields of legislation and community initiatives.
In a related context, HE Shura Council Member Mohammed bin Mahdi Al Ahbabi took part in a session on modern technology and AI in the service of industrial development in the countries of the South.
His Excellency said that the accelerating digital transformation requires parliaments in the countries of the South to act consciously and responsibly to establish clear legislative frameworks that regulate the use of artificial intelligence technologies, protect values and societies, and ensure digital justice.
He pointed out that the State of Qatar is confidently moving toward a digital future, through the launch of the National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence, supporting research and innovation, and developing digital infrastructure. آ
He explained that the Shura Council in the State of Qatar has supported these efforts through several steps, primarily the study of legislative proposals for the digital content industry, including the proposal to establish the influencer license system.
HE Al Ahbabi concluded his remarks by emphasizing the importance of parliamentary cooperation among countries of the South to build unified legislative frameworks based on shared values ​​and promote responsible innovation.
On the sidelines of the forum, HE Al Sulaiti met today with HE Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco Rachid Talbi Alami, HE Speaker of the Senate of the Arab Republic of Egypt Counselor Abdelwahab Abdelrazak, HE President of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament Rolando Gonzalez Patricio, HE President of the Pan-African Parliament Fortune Charumbira, and HE Member of the Argentine Parliament Lucila Creixell.
The meetings explored ways to enhance parliamentary cooperation, exchanged views on issues on the forum's agenda, and discussed the importance of strengthening parliamentary partnerships to serve the interests of the peoples of the countries of the South and support efforts to achieve development, peace, and stability.
