The Shura Council participated today in a special session organized by the General Union of Palestinian Women in cooperation with the Palestinian Non-Governmental Organizations Forum, via videoconference. The symposium addressed the reality of Palestinian female prisoners in occupation prisons and ways to support their struggle.
Representing the Shura Council at the symposium was Her Excellency Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al-Sulaiti, Deputy-Speaker of the Council.
The symposium, held under the title "Palestinian Female Prisoners in Occupation Prisons in the Narrative of Genocide," highlighted the severe violations committed by Israeli occupation forces against Palestinian female detainees amid the ongoing aggression on the Gaza Strip and other occupied Palestinian territories. These actions were described as genocide and ethnic cleansing crimes against the Palestinian people, constituting clear violations of international law and international humanitarian law.
Participants in the symposium reviewed the harsh conditions faced by Palestinian female prisoners in the occupation forces' prisons, including torture, abuse, and deprivation of all their rights. They also noted the increase in arrests of women, particularly among minor girls and university students, since the aggression of October 7th.
Participants warned of the worsening conditions of Palestinian female prisoners, particularly with Israel preventing international human rights organizations from visiting the prisons and failing to comply with international agreements protecting prisoners of war.
The participants called on United Nations-affiliated international institutions and other human rights organizations to pressure the occupying state to stop its crimes and violations against Palestinian female prisoners and to adhere to international humanitarian laws.
