The Shura Council participated in the second plenary meeting of the first session of the fourth legislative term of the Arab Parliament, which was held at the headquarters of the Secretariat General of the Arab League in Cairo on Saturday.
The Shura Council was represented by HE Sheikha bint Yousuf Al Jufairi, HE Essa bin Ahmad Al Nassr, and HE Hamad bin Abdulla Al Mulla, members of the Shura Council and the Arab Parliament.
The meeting discussed the latest developments in various political, security, social, legal, and human rights arenas in the Arab region, including the situation in the Palestinian territories amidst the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, as well as developments in Lebanon.
In this context, HE Essa bin Ahmad Al Nassr emphasized the importance of activating mechanisms for joint Arab action between the Arab Parliament and the Arab League in order to overcome challenges facing Arab cooperation. He also stressed the need to enhance the role of parliamentary diplomacy within the Arab Parliament.
The session also reviewed the permanent committees' reports on various topics, including a draft Arab guiding law to combat illegal immigration, the protection of religious symbols and beliefs, in addition to discussions on issues related to enhancing Arab economic cooperation, supporting the blue economy, and ways to address environmental and economic challenges in the Arab world.
During discussions on the Social, Educational, Cultural, Women and Youth Affairs Committee's report, HE Sheikha bint Yousuf Al Jufairi highlighted that the State of Qatar's adoption of the term 'The Highly Esteemed' instead of 'The Elderly' comes in recognition of their status, shedding light on Qatar's policies, legislations, and mechanisms supporting this group.
Al Jufairi said that the Qatar National Vision 2030 aims to socially integrate the highly esteemed and enhance their rights as part of the comprehensive development process.
The Shura Council Members, who are also members of the Arab Parliament, participated in the Arab Parliament's permanent committee meetings, including the Social, Educational, Cultural, Women and Youth Affairs Committee, the Economic and Financial Committee, the Foreign Affairs, Political, and National Security Committee, and the Palestine Committee.
